Renewable Energy Buy Back Scheme (REBS)

If you use a solar system to generate electricity for your home you can sell any excess electricity generated by your system back to your power provider (Horizon Power) through REBS. This must be approved by the local power provider ie Horizon Power before the system is connected to mains power. We will process this approval with Horizon Power on your behalf. For further information about REB’s click on the following link. http://www.horizonpower.com.au/1041.html

Renewable Energy Certificates (REC’s) and Solar Credits

When you install a solar system you will create Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). A REC is an electronic, tradable commodity equal to 1 Megawatt hour of renewable energy generation. The value of a REC fluctuates due to supply and demand. REC’s are issued by the Federal Government as a way of valuing the carbon emissions you are displacing by producing and using solar power. The value of the REC’s can be offered as a point of sale discount off the cost of your system and are available on completion of the system installation.

Solar credits is an incentive introduced by the Federal Government to encourage us to install solar systems. Solar credits also known as the “REC multiplier allow 3 times the amount of REC’s to be created for the first 1.5kW of your system. If your system is larger than this, solar credits are applied to the first 1.5kW then 1 for 1 REC’s are applied thereafter. Conditions apply.

Please read below for further incentives offered to Broome residents.

Off Grid REC’s

Broome residents are lucky enough to be able to take advantage of the available off grid REC’s which allows customers to receive 3 times the REC’s for an eligible system up to 20kW rather than just the first 1.5kW as explained above. This means for a 5kW system 345 REC’s can be claimed, in turn creating a good discount on the cost of the system. There is however, an annual cap of these off-grid REC’s. For further information please refer to the link below from the Office of Renewable Energy Regulator (ORER) website http://www.orer.gov.au/sgu/solarcredits.html. Conditions apply.
